Welcome
Welcome to Wakefield Karate and Martial Arts College.
What we teach in this college is the original style of Wado Ryu "Way of Peace" karate. Since starting my training, back in 1965, I have endeavoured to produce a comprehensive syllabus based on various training I have experienced over the last 40 years and from that, added my own personality to the style - as any teacher would.
In addition to traditional Wado Ryu, we also teach Uechi Ryu, Ju Jutsu and Okinawan Kobu Jutsu (weaponry). Each person is an individual and, as such, will find their own preferences to a particular style or discipline. They will also have their own reasons for wishing to take up this discipline: there are no right or wrong reasons.
Mastery of the skills of karate can be approached from many different angles: the teachings can be viewed as a martial art, a health development system, a philosophy of life, a way of cultivating peace of mind, a clarification of religion, a cultural activity, a consciousness enhancing principle... the list is endless. Most people, however, generally first encounter karate as a martial art. Physical conditioning leads to training in combat survival, which leads to the necessity of training in emotional and intellectual awareness and direction, which in turn leads to training in what could be labelled "spiritual" powers of heightened sensitivity, perspective and strength of intention.

Whatever the reasons you choose to begin a lifelong love of karate, and whatever you get out of it in the long term, what is guaranteed is that it will be an enjoyable path on the way: occasional pain, discomfort and frustration, but the eventual outcome is definitely worth it!
